Tantric Massage Therapy For Prostate Health

Tantric Massage Therapy is becoming a popular holistic treatment for supporting men with prostate wellness, and also with physical and emotional recovery after prostate surgery and other procedures. Thanks to celebrities such as actor Stephen Fry, who publicly shared his personal journey with prostate cancer, there’s increasing public awareness about the prostate gland as a red flag area for men’s health, and that it’s an issue which can be shared without shame or embarrassment.

Let's Talk About Male Prostate Health!

The prostate is a small gland located in the pelvic area. It’s located internally between the penis and the bladder, and the urethra runs through the middle of it.

The gland produces a fluid that constitutes 70% of semen, and its function is to provide nutrition and lubrication for the sperm as it travels through the urethra. It varies in size and shape depending on a man’s age and physical condition, and it’s often described as having the size and shape of a walnut.

In January 2020, Public Health England released statistics showing that prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in England, and the nation’s third-biggest cause of cancer deaths. Fortunately, the outcome for men with prostate cancer has been steadily improving over the past 20 years, due to advancements in diagnosis and treatments. Importantly, it can be cured if diagnosed and treated early on.

However, many men are too embarrassed to seek medical help and talk about the urogenital symptoms of prostate problems, or fearful to have a rectal examination. This is why it’s important to talk about prostate health. Common Prostate Conditions: A common prostate condition, which affects many men as they get older, is Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH. This enlargement of the prostate gland is not a cause for concern, although it creates an uncomfortable need to urinate frequently, especially at night. Prostatitis is another condition caused by inflammation or swelling of the prostate gland. This creates pain in and around the pelvic area. Prostatitis can be chronic, with symptoms that come and go over several months, or acute where the pain is severe and comes on suddenly.

Medical support is essential for acute prostatitis, and can be resolved with antibiotics. Chronic prostatitis is less understood, and more men are seeking holistic approaches to manage this challenging condition. Tantric Healing Therapy offers holistic treatment and support for these, and other prostate issues. It can be used alongside or after medical interventions.

What Is Therapeutic Tantric Prostate Massage?

Prostate massage has been practiced for hundreds of years as part of men's sexual health in ancient Tantric and Taoist (Ancient Chinese) traditions, and many professional Tantric practitioners offer specialist techniques from both traditions. Most holistic therapies completely avoid the pelvic and genital area. However, Tantric Healing Therapy specialises in genital bodywork, including internal prostate massage. It offers a non-clinical approach for prostate health, in a professional and caring environment.

Sessions include a thorough consultation process, and specialist bodywork to release tension and relax the client’s body before the prostate massage takes place.

Why Do Men Come for Therapeutic Tantric Prostate Massage?

There are a variety of reasons why men come for Tantric prostate massage, and these are some of the common issues that I support clients with: - regular maintenance of prostate health

- specialist treatment of erection issues, including premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction

- regaining sexual confidence and erection after treatment for prostate cancer

- physical and emotional support after clinical prostate procedures and illness

- managing stress and releasing physical tension in the body

- learning about Tantric prostate massage for self-practice at home

- healing after sexual abuse

- coming into deeper connection (or re-connection) with the body

Health benefits of Tantric Prostate Massage

Therapeutic Tantric massage sessions support both the physical and emotional wellbeing of clients. The health benefits of prostate massage include: - Optimising blood and lymphatic flow to the prostate gland and surrounding area. The massage also helps to assist with the removal of any accumulated toxins - Supporting clients with emotional and physical recovery and healing after prostate illness and medical procedures - Release of internal physical tension that can cause premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction - Alleviation of stress and physical tension in the whole body - Bringing more life-force energy (known as ‘Chi’ or ‘Jing’ in the Tantric and Taoist traditions) into the body for long-term health and wellbeing. The massage helps to optimise energetic pathways that relate to the flow sexual energy, and to remove any blockages in the pathways - Support with emotions that are held in the body and gently touching on trauma (where the practitioner is professionally trained in 'Trauma Awareness'), for example after sexual or physical abuse

What Happens During A Tantric Prostate Massage?

I work with many men who have never received a prostate massage before, and are understandably nervous.

However, a good practitioner will explain the process in advance to put their client at ease. They will follow a number of steps to ensure that the prostate massage is a comfortable and effective treatment. Therapeutic Tantric prostate massage will usually include the following steps: 1. The practitioner will discuss your needs before arranging an appointment, and then ask you to complete a confidential questionnaire and consent form. They will offer plenty of consultation time at the start of the session, so that you can share your personal situation and ask any questions. 2. The session begins with deep, relaxing bodywork in preparation for the prostate massage. It’s important to release any physical tension to prepare the client’s body (unlike many quick clinical examinations!). Specialist Tantric-Taoist massage techniques will also be used to release tension in the pelvic area and buttocks, before starting the massage. 3. The practitioner will ask for permission to conduct the prostate massage during the consultation, and again just before the internal work begins. The session is ‘client-led’, so you can change your mind about receiving the prostate massage at any point. 4. The prostate massage generally lasts around 15-20 mins for new clients, and is done in a gentle and respectful way. The whole session, including consultation, will usually take 3.5 hours. 5. After the session, the practitioner will offer you suggestions for maintaining prostate wellness, including exercises to do at home. We generally recommend regular treatments to maintain long-term prostate health.

How Will I Feel During, and After, a Tantric Prostate Massage?

New clients often describe their first prostate massage as a unique and expansive experience. After several sessions, the massage can be experienced as pleasant and enjoyable. The practitioner will stop or adjust the massage if there’s any discomfort.

Sometimes, discomfort or pain is a sign of physical or emotional trauma. A trained 'Trauma Aware' practitioner will hold professional space for trauma, if it arises, and help clients to feel emotions that may be held in the body, including in the prostate area. Trauma release is a slow gradual process and the practitioner will signpost you after the session to other trusted Somatic Trauma Resolution modalities, should you wish to work deeper with trauma held in the body. Most clients experience deep relaxation after the prostate treatment, and are surprised at how effectively it can remove stress and tension from the whole body. This feeling makes up of for any anxiety or shyness about receiving a therapeutic internal massage. It’s not as scary as you think!

Maintaining your Prostate Health: - Have a regular PSA test: If you’re a man reading this article, when’s the last time you had a PSA test? It’s a simple blood test offered at any GP surgery.

- Regular gentle self-prostate massage: This may sound uncomfortable and awkward, but a Tantric practitioner can advise you about how to practice this effectively at home.

- If you have unusual symptoms, or are any doubt about your prostate health, reach out and contact your GP. Early treatment saves lives!
